January 18, 1925 - January 14, 2017
Four days shy of her 92nd birthday Edna passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family.
Predeceased by her Father and Mother, Joe and Hazel Sparrow, her son David, brothers Roy, Ward and Dave, and sister Nell Hatch.
She will be sadly missed by her husband of 65 years Dave, son Kenny (Anita), daughter Marla Zarelli (Denny), son Bobby. Grandchildren Dennis, Adele, Robert and Kane. Great grandchildren Isabella, Dragan, Sophia and Emmett.
Edna was born and raised in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. During WWII Edna worked in an ammunition factory in north Toronto painting bombs for the war...an original bomb girl!! She also worked for many years at the Royal Theatre as a cashier and was the president of her union. During this time she met some incredible people who became lifelong friends.
Edna loved to curl and later on when she couldn't curl anymore she enjoyed watching the games on TV. She also enjoyed watching any and all baseball games on TV. She was a Toronto Blue Jays fan to the end! She loved to do jigsaw puzzles as well as crosswords and other mind boggling puzzles. She loved to play cards and games and often won our quarters at Yahtzee. She played poker with several of her lifelong friends over the years and enjoyed life to the fullest.
Edna was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Esquimalt Branch 172.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ross McKay and his son Dr. Tim McKay for the wonderful care they provided. We would also like to thank the community nurses for making it possible for Edna to stay at home. Without their support and care we couldn't have done it.
A celebration of life will be held later this summer.
In lieu of flowers please feel free to make a donation in Edna's name to Victoria Hospice.
