He is survived by his son Brian (Ceilidh), his daughter Katharine (Alex), grandchildren Henry, Daire and Louise, and his brother Gerald (Jean) and sister Marion (Barry), and in-laws John and Penny Rea. Bob lost his wife and best friend of 46 years, Shelagh Rea, in 2019 and missed her beyond measure.
Bob was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, son of Arnold J. and Jean (Stewart) Friesen,and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan and the University of British Columbia. During his life he had the pleasure of also living in Vancouver, Whitehorse, Smithers, Kelowna and for the past 30 years, Oak Bay. Bob will be missed by many friends across all of those communities.
Bob's primary passion in his life was his family, and he was a caring and generous husband, father and brother.
Bob was also a dedicated public servant in the forestry and planning departments of the Yukon, Canadian, and British Columbia governments. He was passionate about his work and deeply valued the many friendships he made along the way. He took tremendous pride in particular in his work with indigenous communities throughout BC and the Yukon.
Bob’s family and friends will miss him deeply. A private service will be held in due course.
