Barbara was born in Frontier, SK on July 25th, 1939, to Sylvester and Mary Hemsing; she was one of twenty-two children. Shortly after, the family moved to a farm in Rolling Hills, AB. Barbara graduated as valedictorian of her class, and she left Rolling Hills to pursue her dream of studying nursing at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, AB. It was there that she met and fell deeply in love with Glenn Lavern White, whom she married on June 3rd, 1961. Barbara and Glenn lived in a variety of places before settling on a small farm in Dunrobin, ON, where they raised their six children. After visiting Vancouver during Expo 86, Barbara and Glenn, enamoured with the West Coast, moved to Victoria, BC where they caringly owned and operated Hart House Care Home. Barbara and Glenn retired in 1999, and sadly in the spring of 2000, Glenn lost a short battle with cancer. Barbara braved this new existence by embarking on a series of adventures. In 2003 she became a missioner with the Scarboro Foreign Mission Society and spent three years in Guyana, South America. Barbara’s passion for new experiences, fueled her extensive travel with friends and family to many places including Israel, New Zealand, Kenya, Brazil, and Turkey. When not sipping Turkish coffee or enjoying exotic scenery in far off lands, she also indulged her passion for golf, curling, gardening, and family holiday celebrations. Barbara lived a life of compassion, in service to others, guided by her unwavering Roman Catholic faith, and she dedicated her boundless energy towards volunteer activities with Mount St. Mary Hospital, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and St. Andrew's Cathedral. She was a devoted and loving mother/grandmother to her children and many grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by her six children: Dixie MacUisdin (Sean), Wendy White, Stuart White (Chantal Villemure), Peggy White (Peter MacDonald), Jacqueline Corbett, and Jason White (Lindsay), and her fourteen grandchildren.
