With great sadness that we share the passing of Robert (Bob) Byrnes, beloved husband, father and grandfather.
Bob Byrnes was a hard worker, both during his long career at the Bell & BC Tel as well as during his retirement maintaining the nicest lawn in the neighbourhood.
Bob was born on a farm in Dowling Township near Sudbury Ontario. Growing up during the depression gave him a strong work ethic that continued the rest of his life. He also had a strong sense of right and wrong and what is fair.
In 1951, he met Joanna, the prettiest girl to come out of Garson, Ontario. Before you knew it they were married with four energetic kids. He was a lucky man and enjoyed almost 70 years of marriage to a woman that always took care of him and the family.
Bob came out west in the early 50’s and it was his goal in life to live out here. He did it twice… First in the 70’s for work in Victoria and Smithers and finally in the mid 80’s to Vernon for good. Nothing made him happier than getting together with his family, tell some old stories and celebrate with a cold beer or a dram.
Bob is survived by his wife Joanna, and immediate family members, Heather, Art, Glen, Wendy, Cheryl, Pete and Vicki and by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sadly, he was predeceased by his son Doug in 2021.
Bob suffered from dementia his last few years, but was given excellent care by the folks at Pleasant Valley Manor in Armstrong and in Vernon at the Hamlets. The family would like to thank them for their caring assistance.
Bob loved his family. He loved his dog Buddy too. Maybe up in heaven they are reunited for a long walk down in the Hollow. He was a good man. Your work is done Bob, rest easy.
