We regret to announce the passing of Norah Stewart at Hospice House in Vernon on March 19, 2013, in her 91st year. Norah was born in Vernon on April 11, 1922, to Norman and Ethel Denison of Creighton Valley near Lumby. She was predeceased by her parents; brothers: John, Don, and Harry; sisters Dorothy, Sybil and Daphne; and Christel Cam, beloved daughter-in-law and best friend. She is survived by son, King Cam; grandchildren Dean, Denise and Delphine Cam; and Ingrid, Dennis and Herb.
Norah served in the RCAF (WD) from July 1943 to March 1946. While in the Service, she took typing and book-keeping at Western Tech in Toronto and boarded with General MacNaughton’s nephew, also taking accounting courses at Trenton, ON. She was posted to McLeod and Calgary prior to Pat Bay on Vancouver Island.
Norah was a member of the RC Legion in Vernon since 1954 and was a charter member of #899 Wing RCAF Association. She received several awards, including a national for her dedication to the Wing, of which she was very proud, always willing to help out in any way when called upon. She was the Wing Public Relations officer and also Wing Photographer for over 20 years. Her prime goals in life were to enjoy life to the fullest and appreciate family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the chapel of Vernon Funeral Home on Saturday, March 30, at 1:00 p.m., with Padre Brian Jackson officiating.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the caring staff and volunteers at Hospice House for their kind and loving care of Norah over the past month.
In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to do so may make donations in memory of Norah to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506 – 27 Avenue, Vernon, BC V1T 1S4.
