It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Madeline Scott on April 23 2022. Lois Madeline was born April 30 1943 in Prince Albert to Ken and Jennie Bird. Madeline, as she went by, was the oldest of 4 kids: Larry, Bev(Don) and Janet. They moved to Viking in 1956 where she was able to attend school in person for the first time . In 1961 she married Elair Calkins and gave birth to their 4 kids Theresia, Valerie, Jim, and Ken.
While busy raising 4 kids she volunteered with the Girl Guides for many years as well as working many different jobs. One she was very proud of was her time as a pilot car driver, where she met Gerry Scott. They were married in 1982. They lived in Calgary, Saskatoon, and Kindersley, Sask where she ran Madeline's coffee shop, we still have mugs from her shop 30 years later.
In 1989 they moved to FSJ where they bought a 5 acre property and she started her huge garden that everyone remembers so well. Gardening was always a passion of hers and it showed in the beautiful flower beds she made and her vegetable garden with of course her raspberry patch. She spent many hours out in the sun turning that property into her dream. While building the house themselves and getting the fence built. Grandkids remember painting the fence in the summer, picking rocks, riding Kaboda mowing the lawn, and picking raspberries. She was also an avid knitter and loved sewing, she made piles of slippers, mitts, toques, quilts and sweaters. She was a regular, familiar face at the Farmers Market in FSJ for over 25 years. While doing this, in her spare time she was a bookkeeper and had a thriving business that kept her very busy all year round, but especially when she would get space at the mall for tax season. In 2014, after 2 years of travelling in the motorhome Oliver became home, with another Farmers Market to spend time at.
Madeline is pre deceased by her husband Gerry, her parents Ken and Jennie Bird and her son Captain Kenneth Calkins. She is survived by her 3 siblings Bev(Don)
Larry and Janet, as well she is survived by Theresia, Valerie(Terry) and Jim(Kim) as well as 15 grandkids and 13 great grand kids.
Mom: Thank you for the years of listening and biting your tongue. Love you lots and appreciate more every year being able to have you there to bite your tongue while I vent.
