Linda Elizabeth Long

August 26, 1948 – June 29, 2015

It is with both great sadness and joy that we announce the passing of Linda Long from this stage of being. Linda is survived by her husband of 45 years, Gary Long; her 3 children: Cara Long (Joe), Brian Long, and Jane Long-Haggerty (Brian); 4 very special granddaughters: Emily, Caitlyn, Mackenzie-Linne, and Kamea; 2 sisters, Dianne and Sharon; and so many others whose lives she touched and filled with love. Gary and Linda met at Simon Fraser University, where Gary looked across the quadrangle at the frosh dance and saw a bright star. That star was Linda. From that moment on, Gary knew he had found his love, his best friend, his true soul mate. Linda was a nurturing mother and teacher. She was always so proud of her children and grandchildren and had many life changing experiences with them. Linda taught for many years in Vancouver and Kamloops. Gary and Linda moved to Vernon in 1991 and she began substitute teaching, moving to part-time then eventually full time where she taught at West Vernon Elementary for her remaining teaching years. West Vernon Elementary held a special place in her heart and when the school was closed, Linda decided to retire. Linda and Gary travelled the world, often with loved ones, creating cherished memories. A special thank you to Dr. Waldron, Dr. Martyn, and all the nursing staff at Vernon Jubilee for helping Linda through her journey. Friends and Family wishing to pay their respects to Linda, “the resident angel”, may do so at a Celebration of Life at All Saints Anglican Church on July 11th at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers you may make donations to Linda Long's Cambodia School Fund on Fund Me or make blood donations to the local blood bank.
