It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Carl Joseph DuMont at the age of 96. He is survived by his loving
wife of 61 years, Lee. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend to all. He is survived by his five children: Carol (Lyle), Alan (Sydney), Don (Darlene), Maureen (Gary), Barry (Crystal); grandchildren: Tamara, Tyler, Jamie, Charlene, Brittney, Meghan; and great granddaughter Shi Anne. He is also survived by his two brothers, Paul (Anna) and Alfred (Marguerite) and many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters, two brothers and his grandson, Jason.
Carl was born in Nelson, BC. He started his career working in the family forestry business, eventually moved to Nakusp where he built and owned the DuMont Motel. He later moved to Vernon to own Okanagan Lumber (Irly Bird) and then retired in Vernon. Carl was a director of the Okanagan Commemorative Pioneer Cultural Society which built The Gateby and Schubert Center; he was the last surviving member of the directors who were in place when these centers were built. He was also a life member of the Knights of Columbus and the Schubert Center Society. Carl spent his last years in the garden, golfing, camping, fishing, and spending time with his family.
Services for Carl will be held at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church with Prayers being recited on Sunday, May 26th, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. and the Funeral Mass held on Monday, May 27th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow.
The family would like to thank Dr. Cunningham and the staff at Polson North for their compassion and care during his final days.
