Tomiko was born on September 17, 1920, in Carpinteria. She spent her youth in Oxnard, her teens in Santa Barbara, and lived the majority of her adult life in Oxnard, with only a short stint residing in Missouri during WWII.
She is survived by her sister, Mariko Nakano of Guadalupe, CA; her three daughters, Mary Kobashikawa and her husband Peter, Roxane Fowler and her husband Brad, and Kathrine Otani and her husband Steve Sunamoto; her six grandchildren, Dana Kobashikawa, Brian Kobashikawa, Danielle Fowler, Tadao Fowler, Stephanie Otani-Sunamoto, and Nicholas Sunamoto; and her great-grandson, Zachary Biondo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tadao “Bow” Otani; and sisters, Miyoko Tom, and Takako “Taxie” Imamura.
She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, a generous friend, for her sense of humor, her fashion style, the color purple, and her bling.
A family service has already been held and any donations may be given to The American Cancer Society.
