Our husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle was called home to be with our Lord on November 20,2015, in Ventura, CA. Dick was born on November 17,1931, in Tulsa OK, the younger of two children born to Curtis and Edna Thomas. He graduated from Polytechnic High School in Long Beach in 1949 and in turn from Long Beach City College in 1951. Soon thereafter he joined the United States Navy and served his country during the Korean War. He married the most beautiful young nurse, Ann Aguilar in August of 1953. Through the early years of their marriage they had two wonderful children. Immediately following their marriage they settled in Long Beach, CA. They bought their first home in Orange County, CA in 1955. They welcomed their daughter, Sharon in 1958 and soon thereafter their son Richard Jr. in 1960.
Dick was employed as a Mechanical Engineer in the aerospace industry until 1985 when they relocated to Ventura, CA. He worked in the undersea surveillance industry as a Senior Mechanical Engineer until 1994 when he retired. Dick was somewhat of an adventurist individual having obtained a private pilot license while in college, and thereafter together with his loving wife Ann enjoyed a lifetime of scuba diving, volunteer ski patrolling, fishing in the Sierra’s, as well as backpacking and camping.
He was a lifetime member for 59 years of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #1430. In his later years he became an avid woodworker as well. He and Ann traveled extensively throughout the world often due to Dick’s work but also for pleasure. Much of their leisure travels was throughout the West in their motor home ranging from Baja California in the South to Alaska and Canada in the North.
Dick is survived by his loving wife Ann of 60 years. He is also survived by their children, Sharon and son Richard Jr., and their grandchildren, Cara Dunfee, and Chris Santucci of Seattle WA, as well as Brittni Thomason and Joseph Thomason of Ogden UT. Dick is also survived by his sister Floydeane Hunter of Hernando, FL. He is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Edna Thomason.
