Mark was born at Foster Memorial Hospital in Ventura, CA, and was a lifelong resident of Ojai and Ventura. He loved fishing at Lake Casitas, surfing the Point in Ventura, and riding his bike around Ojai and Ventura. Mark was an avid collector of all things Native American and could make almost anything with his hands. He loved throwing pots, carving wooden bows and arrows, gardening, his parakeets and his kitty Apache. Mark was truly an old soul. He was kind, loving, and a wonderful son, brother, and uncle.
Mark is survived by his mother, Darlene Russell King, and stepfather, Robert King, of Placentia, CA; his father, Julian O. Baer, of Valley Center, CA; his life partner, Christine Weitzel, of Ventura, CA; his sister, Monica Wegener and her spouse, Frank Wegener, of New Castle, CA; his sister, Teddi Baer Fletcher and her spouse, Fred, of Valley Center, CA; his sister, Mindy Moll, of Bandera, TX; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and step-siblings. Mark was preceded in death by his step-mother, Rebecca Baer.
A celebration commemorating Mark's life will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018, 5:00 PM, at Boccalis, 3277 East Ojai Avenue, Ojai, CA 93023.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mark’s name may be made to Health Care Foundation for Ventura County (hcfvc.org), The American cancer Society, or to another charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home.
