She was born Lynda Ann Dryden, to Jack Dryden and Virginia Carrillo on May 28, 1947, in Los Angeles, California. Lynda was raised in San Fernando Valley. After high school she worked for the Los Angeles County Hospital System, where she advanced to Office Administer II. She met and married John W. Barry on July 15, 1972 and spent 43 years with him.
Lynda was first and foremost a well-organized person. As an office administrator, she excelled at keeping the office in top running condition. She was an avid reader and loved solving crossword puzzles and played a fine hand of double pinochle with her husband and parents. Lynda liked going to the casino and playing blackjack and the slots. Primm's Casino in Stateline, Nevada, was her favorite getaway.
Lynda and John adopted their two wonderful children, Grey and Eli. She had been attending college but stopped to raise them during their infancy. When Lynda moved to Ventura, she returned to work; working first for Ventura County and then for the Ventura Community College District, and in both, she rose to an office administrator, again making the office hum with efficiency. Lynda returned to college and graduated from California State University at Channel Island with a degree in English Literature.
Lynda was deeply committed to her family both immediate and extended. If she considered you family you were in, unconditionally. Lynda attended all the family parties and her daughter’s soccer games, and the apple of her heart was her son, Eli.
She is survived by her children, Grey and Eli, and her husband, John. Lynda is preceded in death by her sisters, Jackie and Pat; and her niece, Felysha.
Her family is very grateful to the Sacred Heart Community and their outreach in this time of sorrow. A prayer vigil will be held on Monday, June 15, 2015, 7:00 pm, at Sacred Heart Parish, 10800 Henderson Road, Ventura. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, 10:00 am, also at Sacred Heart Parish, followed by a graveside service, at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, in Ventura. A reception honoring Lynda, will take place in Biedermann Hall, behind the Sacred Heart Parish.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lynda’s favorite charity, Battered Women.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. Condolences may be sent to TedMayrFuneralHome.com.
