Lifelong Ventura County resident, Lucy Ann Baker, 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 10, 2013 following a prolonged illness. Lucy was born August 17, 1930 in Ventura to John and Sarah (Garcia) Hernandez.
From the age of eighteen Lucy had competed in roller staking competitions winning numerous medals. She continued competitive skating until her early thirties. Lucy loved to knit blankets and paint pottery and ceramics for family and friends. She also enjoyed watching figure skating competitions on television.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 34 years, Gene Sherwood Baker in 2002. Lucy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jaime and Ana Baker of Ventura; step-son, Jeffrey Baker of Colorado; sister, Erma Moraga of Ventura; step grandchildren, Diego, Isabella and Devin Kress, all of Ventura, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, 2:00 P.M. at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road, Ventura, with Chaplain Valerie De la Torre of Roze Room Hospice officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura.
