It is with shock and heavy hearts, that we announce the sudden death of John Richard Webster, on Friday, June 16, 2017, at the age of 79. John was born in San Francisco, California on February 8, 1938 to the late Kermit and Margaret Webster. Raised in Ventura, John married his high school sweetheart, Linda Schmitt in 1959.
Together they moved to Fresno, California to continue John’s education and football scholarship commitment at Fresno State, as well as raising their daughter, Joney.
After graduating Fresno State and deciding not to pursue a pro football career, he again continued his higher education at Loyola Law School where John was a member of the law review and graduated eighth in his class, while raising his second daughter, Jana.
John and family then returned to Ventura to practice law and became a partner in what is now known as Hathaway, Perrett, Webster, Powers, Chrisman and Gutierrez Law Firm.
John had a strong will and demeanor, but to his close friends and family, it was obvious he was a caring, loving, sensitive soul.
Always a fierce competitor in his many athletic endeavors, he was also an avid reader with an intense interest in WWII history, and not wanting to admit to. John had a love and compassion for helping stray animals that made his backyard their home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kermit and Margaret Webster, sister, Mary Sipes, his close relationship to his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Bea Schmitt, niece, Tracy Viles, nephew, John Gruell and his beloved Labrador, “Bubba.”
John leaves behind his wife, Linda Webster of Ventura; daughters, Joney Otteson of Idaho and Jane Webster of Ventura; his dear partner, Jill McCarthy of Ventura; two grandchildren, Riley and Brystal (Geno); five great grandchildren, Kane, Kole, Madisyn, Aspen, and soon to come, Savannah; as well as his extended families of Viles, Schmitt, Gruell and Sipes.
