James Allen Turner of Ventura, CA passed away of natural causes on 12 July 2011, one month short of his 89th birthday. He was born in Bremerton, WA on 14 Aug 1922 to Charles and Gertrude Turner. According to his birth certificate, his place of birth was “Beach, bottom of Sixth Street”. He grew up hunting and fishing which remained two of his passions throughout his life.
His other passion was his wife, Betty whom he met in college and married in 1948. They had a daughter Joyce who he adored.
Jim graduated from Washington State University, and spent two years in the Navy as a radioman on the battleship USS Maryland. They moved to Ventura in 1958 to work as an engineer at Point Mugu.
Jim retired from Point Mugu as Director of the Range Development Department in 1974. During his retirement, he enjoyed camping and fishing at Rock Creek with his buddies and shooting skeet with the Point Mugu gun club.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters Alice and Bernice. He is survived by his wife Betty; daughter Joyce and her husband Brian Fenton; sister Lois Ledbetter; brother-in-law Bill Daniel, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held from 1 - 4pm on Saturday, 23 July 2011 at the Ventura Elks Lodge, 2126 Knoll Drive; Ventura, CA 93003.
