She spent her life bringing people together with her easy going attitude, adventurous spirit, and hospitality.
In high school, Beverly swam on her school’s swim team, was a member of the rifle team, and rode horses on weekends. She shared her interests as a camp counselor by teaching children to ride, and later took jumping lessons.
Bev graduated from high school in Highland Park, Michigan and attended Michigan State University in Lansing. As a student, she organized various activities and outings for her group of friends. It was through those outings that she got to know the love of her life, Gordon Campbell. They married in 1949.
She worked in the accounting department at Ford Motor Company until her first child, Debra, was born in 1954, followed by Douglas in 1955. In 1957, she and her young family moved to Ventura, California where Gordon accepted a position as a math teacher at Ventura High School. In 1959, her third child, Bruce, was born.
With her family complete, Bev became a Bluebird and Campfire Girl leader, and often volunteered to help with any activities in which her children were involved. Her zest for adventure also instilled a love of camping, swimming, and the ocean in her family. With three strong swimmers, the family spent many afternoons at swim meets and water polo games.
Beverly worked part time at Ventura College, where she taught reading to adults and helped in the registration office.
When her kids were grown, she enjoyed travel and ocean cruises, the Panama Canal and Alaska cruises being her favorites. She also enjoyed spending time with and bragging about her grandchildren.
She was also a long time member of several clubs: First president of Buena High Faculty Wives Club, Knit Wits (a sewing group),the San Buenaventura Women’s Club, two bridge groups, and a founding member of a craft group.
She is survived by her husband, Gordon; children, Debra (James) Harvey of Casper, Wyoming, Douglas (Christine) Campbell of Ventura, and Bruce Campbell of Simi Valley; and her grandchildren, Erin (Patrick) Harrell of Lakewood, Colorado and Lauren Harvey of Billings, Montana.
The family would like to thank the close knit group at Primary Medical, especially Dr. Dana Jennings and Dr. Marie Barrell, for their close cooperation and caring service to their patient. We would also like to thank Livingston Memorial Hospice for their help in this difficult time.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 17, 2015, 2:00 pm, at Ted Mayr Funeral Home 3150 Loma Vista Road Ventura, with The Reverend Dan Hull officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to TedMayrFuneralHome.com.
