Barbara Audrey Collier passed away peacefully on June 25, 2013 after a brief illness. Barbara was born in Hollywood on May 1, 1924. She married Charles Lester Collier on May 28, 1948 in Fillmore. Other than the two years she spent in Sacramento right after High School, Barbara lived her entire life near or in Ventura. She worked as a legal secretary for 20 years for Mr. John Galvin in Fillmore, then over 30 years for Mr. Jim Loebl in Ventura, and continued to do work out of her home after she retired. Barbara was a member of the Ventura Missionary Church for many years and more recently attended services and bible study at Ventura Baptist Church.
Barbara and Chuck helped many, many people throughout their lives and had many friends. Barbara was a great listener and made people feel special. She never missed sending a birthday card to everyone in the family and sent thank-you cards for every gift received. She loved watching the birds that came to the feeders around her house. She was an avid sports fan but especially loved watching the Dodgers. She always had a positive attitude and a smile and chuckle for everyone. Barbara’s roughest swear word: “Sugar!”, and most common expression of joy: “Hot Diggity!” Barbara was truly a beautiful person inside and out.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck, and sister, Ola Gillibrand Perry. She is survived by her nephews Leyland Gillibrand of Ventura and Dale (Vicky) Gillibrand of Santa Clarita, nieces Joan (Bill) Gladwin of Chowchilla and Cathy (Ed) Gladwin of British Columbia, step-daughter Connie (Bud) Arnold of Orange, and step-grandchildren Shad and Shandra.
A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, July 27, 2013, 2:00 pm, at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, with The Reverend Dr. Leonard DeWitt officiating .
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura.
