Michael G. Haverlack was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on September 13, 1936. Michael attended Garfield Heights High School. During his senior year, he placed fourth in the state wrestling tournament in the 112 lb. weight class. After graduating in 1954, Michael enlisted in the Navy, where he was an electrician at sea on the USS Arcadia. While on deployment in the Mediterranean, one of his favorite ports was Italy. While in Italy, he toured Rome and met the Pope, which was a proud moment for him as a Catholic. Michael met his future wife of 66 years, Tommie Jean, while stationed in Newport, Rhode Island. Michael was discharged from the Navy on September 12, 1957.
On November 16, 1957, Michael and Tommie married in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Shortly after getting married, they moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he started his fifty-year career in the financial field. They had their first daughter, Michell, on June 5, 1958. On December 26, 1959, they had their second daughter, Susan. As a family, they vacationed in Rhode Island and Canada.
Some of his favorite pastimes were going on Cruises with family and friends and sailing on their boat, “Go For It,” with the Venice Sailing Squadron.
His father, Michael, his mother, Irene, and his brother, Frank Haverlack, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Tommie Jean Haverlack; his daughters, Michell Wolfgang, and Susan Casteel; his five Grandchildren, Jennifer, Daryl, Elizabeth, Jessica, and Cody; and his five Great-Grandchildren, Matthew, Haley, Allison, Lucas, and Leo.
Michael’s Children, Grandchildren, and Great-Grandchildren gave him the greatest enjoyment in life, and he was proud of all their accomplishments.
A visitation for Michael will be held Friday, March 15, 2024 from Noon to 2:00 PM with funeral services to follow at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 1935 S. Tamiami Trail, Venice, FL 34293. Burial will follow at Gulf Pines Memorial Park.
