Joan Carole Frondorf, 85, passed away at home in Venice Florida, on June 29, 2020, with family at her side, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on March 22, 1935, in Newton, Massachusetts to the late Kenneth and Dorothy Lumbert, Joan grew up in Auburndale and Wellesley, MA, and graduated from Wellesley High School in 1953.
Joan studied at the Forsyth School for Dental Hygiene in Boston where, in 1955, she earned an Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene. She began her successful career as a dental hygienist in Natick and Sudbury, MA.
While attending college, Joan met her husband James (“Jim”). They married in 1956 and went on to celebrate 64 years together. They raised their three daughters, Lynne, Brenda, and Judith in Framingham, MA. Joan took a keen interest in the girls’ lives, encouraging each of them, taking pride in their accomplishments, and supporting them through life’s many challenges. Joan loved, cherished, and nurtured her six grandchildren, and basked in the joy of her six great-grandchildren.
Joan was passionate about Girl Scouting and botany. She spent many years working with the Bay Path and Patriot’s Trail Girl Scout Councils. In 1984, she received an award recognizing her exceptional dedication to Girl Scouting. She also worked for the New England Wildflower Society’s Garden in the Woods in Framingham. Joan and Jim shared their love of gardening at their homes in New England and in Florida.
