away at the age of 75 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Jim was born in Kansas City,
Missouri on March 11, 1946 to Charles Verle and Retta Belle (Numbers). He received his
history degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, spending his life and career as a
student, teacher, mentor, and salesman. On October 20, 2001, he married his Sweet Rose.
Jim was preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his wife, Rose
Buffington, sister, Harriet(Roger) Minge, his sons, Joel, Sean (Sierra), and Todd (Courtney)
Buffington, his daughters, Amy (Scott) Wallace and Ingrid (Paul) Bedtke, his nephew Lance
(Angela) Minge, his niece Leah (Garret) Guthrie, and his 13 grandchildren.
Jim had a passion for human connection, with his family, friends, neighbors, customers, and
church community. As a parent, he was often on the sideline coaching or cheering on his
children’s sporting events and always encouraged their educational, career, and life pursuits.
Jim took pride in his own career, a loyal and hard working man who was genuinely invested in
his client’s projects. He taught accounting at the community college for many years and
participated in bible studies throughout his life. His adventurous side shone through his many
travels to the mountains, lakes, and beaches. He was at heart an entertainer, whether hosting
or attending family get-togethers or with new and lifelong friends. Jim cherished time with his
grandchildren and was always brightened by a visit or good news of their accomplishments.
Jim often found strength in his faith. He thrived in fellowship with his brothers and sisters in
Christ.
