Leon A. Prentice of Vancouver, WA passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 8, 2013 at the age of 90. Born in Portland, OR on November 18, 1922, he grew up with four brothers. He graduated from Jefferson High School, class of 1939.
He was a proud Navy man and served in WWII. After four years of service as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate First Class, he received an honorable discharge in 1946.
Leon taught high school English in Portland for about two years then later began a career at Tektronix. He was one of the pioneer employees at the Beaverton facility. His position was design engineer having many innovative designs and ideas.
He was married to Berthena Marie Steely February 18, 1950 in Portland, OR. Leon had many interests and activities, even running for State Senate. Of all the things Leon did and succeeded at, he always said his two greatest accomplishments were marrying his loving wife and raising his two children, Bill and Janet.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Berthena Prentice of Vancouver, WA; his brother, John Prentice of Seattle, WA; his son Bill (Lisa) Prentice; his grandchildren Austin and Kelsey Prentice of West Linn, OR; his daughter Janet Prentice-Newson and husband Charlie Newson of Vancouver, WA.
A Committal service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland, OR on January 17, 2013 at 1:00pm
He is deeply loved and appreciated and will be greatly missed.
