Tom grew up on Graveley Street in East Vancouver and was very proud of his upbringing. He considered himself very lucky to have had such a wonderful family – his parents David and Nancy, and sisters Jane and Doll.
Tom attended Hastings Elementary, then Britannia High, graduating in 1965. He went on to work at B. C. Tel until retiring in 1997.
He was often called by the Red Cross for donation, due to his rare blood type and was given an honorable mention for donating 58 times.
Tom was an avid boxing fan. He met Mohammed Ali in person and had a photo taken during the Ali/ Chuvalo pre show at the Georgia Hotel, which was one of his most prized possessions.
Walking was a religion to Tom - his favourite place was the Stanley Park Seawall and his morning walks to work.
For the last 3 years he has resided at Cedars Hopehill Assisted Living on 5th and Rupert in Vancouver. The family wishes to thank the staff for their care and support.
Tom was predeceased by his father David in 1974, mother Nancy in 1982, and sister Jane in 1999. He is deeply loved and missed by surviving sister Doll (Terry) and extended family; his longtime companion Valerie Maximuk and family Karen, Maxine, Ramona, and Gregory; his longtime friend Raffaella Loconte and family Rosa (Daniele), Grazia, and Donato and many, many lifelong, close, loyal friends.
Tom wishes to thank his sister Doll, the Maximuk and Loconte families for their love and support over the years.
Many glasses will be raised in remembering this loving, caring man. Bon Voyage, Tom and we’ll be meeting you, on the other side.
