It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Steven Loukas, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He passed away peacefully at Vancouver General Hospital, on Thursday, December 5th, 2024, with his loving family at his side. He is survived by his wife Mary, children Gregory and Emily (Jarrett), grandchildren George and Harrison, brothers Ross and Bruce, sisters Dorothy and Helen, and many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by other relatives and numerous friends, especially those who cherished lifelong friendships with him.
Born on January 8th, 1951, in Malouni, Greece, Steven immigrated to Canada at the age of ten. He was raised in a close, loving family by his parents, Fotios and Athena, along with his two sisters and two brothers.
Steven began his career in the restaurant business with Stavros and Carnegie’s, before discovering his true passion: designing and building beautiful homes in Vancouver, particularly in Kitsilano. Known for his signature craftsman style, Steven created timeless homes, including those for his own family. His work was recognized with a Vancouver Heritage Award, a reflection of his creativity and dedication to his craft.
Steven cherished life’s simple pleasures, placing family above all else. He was a man of great warmth and generosity, known for his huge heart, bright smile and unforgettable laugh which had a unique ability to light up a room. Also known for his love of food and his passion for cooking, Steven found joy in preparing meals for family and friends, creating not just dishes but fun memories filled with laughter and love. His affection for animals was boundless, and they, in turn, adored him. Steven enjoyed numerous vacations with his family, especially to Greece and Hawaii, as well as many trips to Las Vegas with friends, creating memories that will be held dear for a lifetime.
Steven had a calmness that could ease any of your worries. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his kindness, generosity, patience, creativity, smile, sense of humour, infectious laugh, and his unconditional love.
A funeral will be held at 11am on Monday, December 16th, 2024 at St. George's Greek Orthodox Cathedral with a reception to follow in the Hellenic Community Hall next to the church. Please join us.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution box will be set up at the service for donations towards a memorial bench in Steven’s honour that will be located at Spanish Banks.
