Our beloved mother was born in Yuanxiang Lane, Longdu City, Zhongshan County of Guangdong Province. She fled to Macau during the war, and then moved to Hong Kong. In 1974, the whole family, together with our Dad, migrated to Vancouver, Canada.
Despite the new environment and unfamiliar language, our mother was very optimistic and strong, dedicated to work and took care of the family.
Being the eldest in her family, with two brothers and four sisters, she is truly a big sister figure. She herself had seven children and a total of fourteen grandchildren. She had an active lifestyle and loved to swim, travel, play ping pong, badminton, and especially loved singing. She participated in a singing group three times a week and performed in senior homes, libraries and hospitals during special and seasonal occasions. With a strong presence in the community, she was once chairman and held a few other positions at the community center and often she would volunteer to help cook breakfast and lunch. Mom had led a fulfilled life and was always excited to learn and try new things. Even at over 80 years of age, she learned to take photos with the iPad and enjoyed playing Candy Crush. She very much treasured her time with her grandchildren and were deeply loved by them. Grandma, we will always Love you.
Mom was an excellent cook. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends and most of you here have probably had a taste of her cooking. Fan favorites include: steamed buns (especially the BBQ pork ones!), deep fried sesame balls, glutinous rice balls, sticky rice dumplings, steamed date cakes, sesame candies and many more. We will always remember the cooking and even more so, the person behind it. Mom, we will always Love you.
We had been sharing the gospel to our Mom for some time and when our Dad decided to accept Jesus Christ as his Savior, she had prayed with him. We believe the seed had already been planted within her heart. After that, she acknowledged that she had accepted Christ as her Savior on several occasions where brothers and sisters from the church preached Gospel to her. She also enjoyed attending activities and group sessions organized by church members.
On the 19th of October, a sudden aneurysm sent Mom to the hospital. Though she was in a partial coma, she was still slightly responsive. On the afternoon of the 20th, Pastor Abraham Lau visit her at the hospital, prayed for her and for our family, and baptized her with faith. At 2:20pm of Oct 21st, she went to rest in peace in God’s loving arms.
We know she is now in heaven with the Lord and that this departure is only temporary. She is in eternal joy and peace with Jesus Christ and our Lord.
Mom, we will meet again!
