February 23, 1945 – December 27, 2020
Our dearest Sharon passed away suddenly in her home in Coquitlam BC on Dec. 27 with family by her side. Sharon will be greatly missed by her niece Hannah Ponting (Mauro) of Coquitlam, her brother Richard Kirk and sister in-law Mary Wood of Kingston ON, and her many cousins and friends. Sharon is pre-deceased by her father, Robert Kirk and her mother, Kathleen Kirk (nee Copithorne), formally of Cornwall ON.
Born in Cornwall ON she developed a passion for teaching. Her first teaching assignment was in Timmins ON. In 1978,
Sharon moved to Coquitlam where she taught in Mission then in Port Coquitlam. She was devoted to teaching her students (young and old) and continued to tutor for many years after her retirement in 2005. She loved Golf and Bridge, the arts, knitting and crafts. She was a master organizer of all things.
Sharon was an avid Bridge player and often organized Bridge games and lessons. She introduced Bridge into the schools and was in her element, once again, teaching kids. During the pandemic, she brought Bridge online which helped many to keep playing and socializing. She was a committed member of the Hang Tough Arthritis Support Group especially with fundraising through the sales of her golf ball creations.
She was a beacon of kindness and joy. Her shining light will forever live in our hearts.
A celebration of life will be arranged in Coquitlam at a later date. At a future date, Sharon's family will inter her ashes in Woodlawn Cemetery, Cornwall. Donations are welcomed by the Arthritis Society or BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.
