Robert (Bob) George was born on July 8, 1923 and died peacefully in his sleep at Kiwanis Care Centre, North Vancouver on September 30, 2014. Survived by his children Cheri (Jack) Lewis, Robert (Mitzi) George, Glenna (Alvin) Schooner, Debra (Eric) George, Greg George, Gordon (Audrey) George, Mary (Eugene) Conlon, Thomas, Christine, Frank, Roberta (Stephen) George and Lucy Girioux along with Roger Carter, Lee Maracle, Joyce (Brian) McLellan and Joan (Grand Chief Stewart) Phillip. Bob’s children have blessed him with a total of 57 grandchildren, 87 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Bob will be missed by his siblings Rosemary Thomas, Irene Aleck, Amy-Marie George and Leonard (Sue) George. Predeceased by parents Dan and Amy George (nee Jack): wife Kathleen George (nee Thomas): and children Elizabeth, Josephine and Roy George. Bob’s history of work included Nova Lumber, actor, and the nation’s school bus driver. For ten years, Bob held the Elder resident position for BCIT: and on December 7, 2005, Bob received an honorary doctorate from BCIT. In his youth, Bob also played in The Band with his father and uncles, and was part of the 1946 Champion 11 man canoe club. Bob also helped revitalize the dance group with brother Len during the early 80s. “Uncle Bob” has been missed throughout the community, walking each block as he said his rosary, with a bag in hand picking up bottles or garbage for recycling. The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Kiwanis for the care they provided during his stay.
