Born in Glasgow, Scotland on July 12, 1943, Bob emigrated with his family to Canada in 1948 but never lost his Scottish identity. He was an avid golfer and loved being as close to the ocean as he could get. Bob loved sports throughout his life and was a talented athlete in his youth. He played football on scholarship for the University of British Columbia and won many awards for his outstanding athleticism. In his later days, he was a dedicated sports fan who could tell you the story of almost any player.
Not one to wait or put off an interesting experience, Bob lived a full and rich life. He worked at Canaccord and a number of other Vancouver firms as a stock market trader and maintained his keen interest in the stock market up until his last days. After retiring, Bob made the most of his time, with bucket list trips up to Haida Gwaii, New York, and England as well as frequent trips to some of his favourite golf courses in Nova Scotia.
He was generous to a fault and fiercely supportive of his family and he will be dearly missed by his wife Bonnie, his children Amber and Craig, his son-in-law and daughter-in-law Eric and Erika, and his 3 grandchildren: Evelyn, Finley, and Ophelia. He was predeceased by his parents, Bob & Betty (Elizabeth) Bissell, and, recently, by his older brother, Jack Bissell.
Bob was grateful to have spent his last days at home and the family is thankful to the South Community Health Center Palliative Care Team and Dr. Marck Hudon for their wonderful care, and for making this possible.
If desired, any donations can be made in Bob’s name to the Canadian Lung Association or a charity of your choice.
We will celebrate his life at Fraserview Golf Course (7800 Vivian Drive, Vancouver, V5S 2E6) on Wednesday, February 7th, 2024. The Celebration of Life will start at 3:00 pm and will be followed by refreshments.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.hamiltonharronfunerals.com for the Bissell family.
