May 1, 1929 - October 6, 2020
On the evening of October 6, 2020, our beloved Dad/Grandpa/Great-Grandpa, Min Pon Louie,
passed away at the age of 91 at Eagle Ridge Hospital in Port Moody, BC.
Dad was a teacher back in Taishan, China and was Honorary President and founder of the
Taishan Red Cross Association. He immigrated first to Canada (referred to as Gold Mountain)
to work hard for a better life and future for his family, eventually having his wife and 2 children
joining him in 1958 before welcoming 3 more children.
He worked in lumber camps prior to opening Lantern Inn Restaurant in Port Alberni with
partners. In 1972, the family moved to Vancouver where eventually he held the position of CEO
of Chinavision Canada until his retirement.
His life encompassed much in giving back to the Chinese community which included his
commitment as director of “The Chinese Times”, “Success”, the Canadian Chinese Freemason,
the Chinese Benevolent Association of Vancouver, Dart Coon Club and The Natives of Toi
Shan Benevolent Society.
For many years, Dad held a leadership position within the Canadian Chinese Freemason as
Chairman and as a Senior Senator, being a member since 1953.
He was honoured twice by the Province of BC and was presented with a Certificate of
Appreciation for his long-term dedication to the Chinese community.
Dad was predeceased by Mom Lin Toy on April 15, 2020 and is survived by his 5
children.....Annie, Ernie (Connie), Andy (Linda), Jerry (Linda), Grace (Ken).....as well as 6
grandchildren, Leonard (Sylvia), Sheena, Lillian, Michael, Nathan, Kelly..... and 2
great-grandchildren, Savanah & Xander.
Private graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cementary October 16, 2020.
