Katina was born and raised in Crete, Greece. She lost her parents David and Maria at a very young age. She naturally took over the role of matriarch, raising her siblings, through turmoil and trying times. After starting her own family, she moved to Vancouver in 1969, to escape the hardship and to start a new and better life for her family.
Katina was predeceased by her fond siblings: brothers Themis and Kosta, and sister Anna, her beloved daughter Marina (2002), and cherished daughter-in-law Janice (2021). She is survived by her adoring children Drake (Janice), Mary (Bobby), and David (Rebecca), her treasured grandchildren Alanna (Alcides), Anna (Kurt), Melina (Hugo) and Katerina (Perry) and her precious great grandchildren Michaella, Lennon, Dylan, Alexander, and one on the way.
First and foremost, Katina loved her family and being with them was her greatest joy. She was an incredible cook and host, and loved nothing more than having people over to entertain. One would never leave Katina's home without being completely full in both belly and heart (or without a care pack of leftovers to enjoy in the following days).
Some of Katina's many passions were crocheting and knitting. Many family members were fortunate to have some of her handy work passed down to them on special occasions. She found immense joy in creating heirloom pieces to gift to her loved ones.
In her younger years Katina was also an avid gardener and loved being outdoors amongst her plants and flowers.
Katina was a remarkable woman. Her strength, kindness, generosity and passionate heart will be remembered by all that were fortunate to know her. Her vivacious and nurturing spirit and loving nature will be sorely missed. She will always be remembered and forever in our hearts. We feel so privileged and honoured to have had her in our lives and to have known her love.
The family would like to thank VGH staff for their care and attention in her final weeks and Blenheim Lodge Care Home for the care they provided to Katina over the last 9 years.
May Katina rest in eternal peace.
