Born in Abbotsford, Judy was raised in West Vancouver and earned an education degree from UBC. After graduation, in 1959, she moved to the Kootenays to teach, settling in Castlegar where she married and raised her family. Teaching was her true passion and she was very proud of the children she taught over the years. Upon retirement, she returned to the coast, and lived in Gibsons for many years. In 2016, she moved to Vancouver, to spend more time with her daughters and grandson.
A strong believer in volunteerism, Judy was active and involved with causes and organizations throughout her life. In the Kootenays, she selflessly gave her time to organizations like the United Way, the Kiwanis Club, the Kootenay Society for Community Living, as well as many political campaigns. On the Sunshine Coast, she tutored, served on the library board and at the Gibsons Public Art Gallery, and in Vancouver she volunteered at her grandson’s elementary school.
Judy will always be remembered for her wonderful laugh, her passionate opinions and for her deep love of news, with a touch of Hollywood gossip thrown in for good measure. As someone who liked a good party, Judy would have loved nothing more than everyone raising a glass of wine in her memory.
She spent the last years of her life in Purdy Pavilion under the loving care of the staff there. We can never thank them enough for their thoughtful and generous care of Judy at the end of her life.
She is survived by two daughters, Loree (Doug) and Jennifer (Brian), a son, Graham, grandchildren Jenny and Frankie and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the next few months.
She Is Gone by David Harkins
You can shed tears that she is gone.
Or you can smile because she has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back.
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left.
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her.
Or you can be full of the love that you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday.
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember her and only that she is gone.
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back.
Or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.MountPleasantFuneral.com for the Campbell family.
