She was born in Hong Kong on December 6, 1927 to Ming Tong Yan and Lan Han Tang. She was the oldest of six siblings including three sisters and two brothers (Betty, Shirley, June, Alan and Peter). She was raised and educated in Hong Kong until the Sino-Japanese War started. Her family moved to China in 1941 as Hong Kong was occupied by Japan.
She married Ying Kwan Fung in Toi Shan District, China on Mar 6, 1944. They moved back to Hong Kong in 1948 and raised four children: Raymond (Elaine), Betty, Fanny (Leo) and Juliana (John). She immigrated to Vancouver with her family in 1976.
She dedicated her time and love to help raising six grandchildren: Ian, Derek (Carmen), Tim (Julie), David (Karen), Jonathan, and Amy (Pierre). After 64 years of marriage, her husband passed away in 2008. Her legacy continues with eight great-grandchildren Tyson, Alexa, Wesley, Jordan, Lauren, Kathryn, Cooper, and Adelia.
