It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Grace Clara Hermann of Vancouver BC. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. In her final moments she was remarkably composed as she shared life advice and kind words of love for everyone. Her last sentiments were comforting and heartwarming in true 'Amazing Grace' fashion.
Grace was born at home on the family farm in Sunnyslope Alberta. She often shared fond memories of her deep love for the animals, especially the horses and dogs. From a young age Grace realized that farming was not her forte which lead her to leave home at only 15 years old. She was a determined and hard working young woman who supported herself by working in restaurants while pursuing further education at night school in Stetler, AB. Next she moved to Pentiction, BC where she lived for a few years with her friend Clara. On a whim her and Clara decided to hitch hike to Vancouver where they secured jobs at the MacMillan Bloedel plywood plant and Grace continued with her night school education. In 1958, she met Doug, the love of her life at a dance in Vancouver. Educated in book keeping, her love of numbers and work ethic elevated her to accountant level work at Woodwards and later years at Nalleys. Although she had a successful career what gave her the most pride and fulfillment was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In her limited amount of spare time she enjoyed quilting blankets, which she gifted to loved ones. Grace will always be remembered for her selfless loving and caring nature, and her gift for giving advice which usually included home baked chocolate chip cookies or corned beef pasties. She will be loved and missed by family and friends more than words can say.
