We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father, husband, and brother Alan Li-Bong Wong, passed away in a diving accident on Wednesday, December 30th, 2020.
Alan was born in Vancouver, the sixth child of seven in the family of Quon and Winnie Wong. After graduating from the University of British Columbia, he completed his Chartered Accountant Designation and began working at Campbell Sharp.
Over his career, he held positions such as the Vice President of Vancity Visa, and the CFO of Teacher Savings, Citizens Bank and Tides Canada.
Alan loved outdoor sports, participating in dragon boating, football, golf and recreational hockey in his early years. He was an avid skier and volunteered on the ski patrol. Alan later developed a passion for scuba diving and became a technical diver, holding a director position for the Artificial Reef Society of British Columbia. In recent years, Alan became fascinated by the honey bees and took up beekeeping, learning and sharing his knowledge with the community. He was honoured to become the President of the Richmond Beekeepers Association in 2019. Alan is survived by his loving wife Jeanette, his children Mackenzie, and Madison; his sisters, Amelia, Arlene (Anthony), Alisa (Brian); his brothers, Adrian (Maria), Angus (Elinna), Alex, nieces and nephews, and grandnephew and grandniece.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Alan Wong to the Boone Hodgson Wilkinson Trust, Canada Helps Artificial Reef Society of British Columbia, or the Chinese Presbyterian Church.
