Mary Ellen Gregory Strebel, 85, of Van Buren, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2024 at her home. She was born April 19, 1939 in Rudy to the late Leslie and Mary (Gatlin) Gregory. Mary was a lifelong member of Jehovah’s Witnesses in the Van Buren Congregation. She loved first and foremost teaching people from God’s Word. From the late 1980’s to 2014 she accompanied her husband Marvin on approximately 100 volunteer Kingdom Hall building projects in locations around Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and one in Alaska. Another highlight in volunteer service included driving to Honduras to bring much needed supplies to the less fortunate brothers and sisters in that area. She was also an avid vegetable and flower gardener always looking for the beauty in God’s creation. Respecting her last wish and with love for all she encountered in Crawford County and surrounding areas, she went to sleep peacefully in her home in Van Buren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin R. Strebel; two sisters, Violet Hesslen and Barbara Sanders; and two brothers, Farrel Gregory and Wesley (Pete) Gregory.
She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) Condry and husband Steven; a granddaughter, Meredith E. Condry; and a grandson, Sheldon D. Condry and wife Kassandra, all of Tulsa; a sister, Ethel M. McGuire and husband Thomas of Van Buren; a brother, Darrel Gregory of Rudy; seven nieces, one nephew, and several great-nieces and -nephews.
Family-hosted memorial service will be 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2024 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 1641 State Highway 282 in Van Buren. Cremation is under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR. Ashes will be placed at Gill Cemetery.
