Buster Roy Fondren, Jr., 74, of Alma, passed away Friday, September 1, 2023 at his home. He was born January 23, 1949 in Fort Smith to the late Buster “Bo” and Etta (Beavers) Fondren, Sr. He was retired from Wilson Brothers Construction after 12 years and was a migrant worker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Fondren; a son, Troy Gene Fondren; a sister, Sissie Huffman; three brothers, Prince, Perry and Billy Fondren; and a granddaughter, Hailea Ann Marie.
He is survived by two daughters, Rosa Fondren and Wynema Brumley and husband Matthew, Jr., all of Alma; as well as many others that he was like a father to; six sisters, Mary Blackshear of Rudy, Susie Merideth of Alma, and Linda Casebolt, Betty Moppin, Donna Smith, and Georgia Swackhamer, all of Springdale; a brother, Charles Fondren of Alma; and seven grandchildren, Rosa, Destiny, Emilea, Matthew, Keera, Kailea, and Hollea.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Gill Cemetery, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Brumley, Matthew “Bubba” Brumley, Buster Fondren, Billy Fondren, Jerry Blackshear, and Charles Fondren. Honorary pallbearers will be Teddy Melton and James White.
The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, AR.
