May 15, 1976- August 31, 2022
Jose Guillermo Peralta Trujillo was born at National Hospital in Amatitlan, Guatemala. He was the third of four children of Guillermo and Ana Maria. At age 5, they moved to Chiquimula where he entered preschool at Rosa Flores Monroy. In 1983, he started primary school at Sagrada Familia School. The family moved to El Carmen Frontera, a village near the Mexican border in Malacatan, San Marcos, in 1987. He loved to eat tacos there.
He Studied in Santa Lucia School part of primary school in Malacatan, San Marcos, taking the bus daily with his siblings Susy and Danilo. They loved to explore in the vast vegetation close to the Usumacinta River and would often come home soaked from the rain.
In 1990, the family moved back to Amatitlan, where he finished high school. He was quite the entrepreneur, finding ways to make money, such as helping people with schoolwork and painting houses. He went to the capital, Guatemala City, to study at The Federico Taylor Institute where he graduated with his bachelors in Architecture.
His family was known as “Los Bullas,” or the noisy ones, and he personified that in the way he would always greet people wherever he went and played music as often as possible. Guillermo, often called LLemo, or a reversed version of the name, Molle, loved to play basketball and even played professionally for a while. His group of family members and friends spent their free time together playing sports, riding their bikes through the mountains and rainforest or just hanging out on the street corner they named “La Esquina Sagrada.”
In 2002, Guillermo left Guatemala with a backpack and a dream. He arrived in the United States where he worked hard at various jobs in Los Angeles and San Bernardino areas, became fluent in English, built a life for himself and nourished a network of new and old friends all while still staying connected with his friends and family abroad. He traveled to Guatemala frequently over the years.
Some of his earlier jobs in the USA included working at King Express, LAX, painting cars, forklift driving and Kraft among others. For the past eight years, he worked doing several positions over time within the company JM Eagle, a plastic pipe manufacturing factory, including shipping/ receiving, purchasing, quality control, grinder, stencil, and Safety Coordinator. He took pride in working hard to try to keep people safe and finding innovative ways to help out the company. He worked very hard to support his family, but his motto was “Doing what you like is freedom. Liking what you do is happiness.”
He met his wife, Elizabeth, in 2011. They spent hours chatting and enjoying nature and fun times with friends and family. “Let’s do this!” was their view on their life together, and they married in 2013 at a beautiful chalet right on Lake Amatitlan, surrounded by loved ones. His son, Skyler Guillermo, was born the following year. Guillermo had always dreamed of playing catch with his boy and they played basketball and other games often. The family was very saddened by a loss in 2016. Guillermo was very proud to become a US Citizen in 2017. Later that year, his daughter, Lluvia Noelle, was born. They shared a love of music, art and silliness. The following year, they were able to purchase their beautiful home he nicknamed “P. T.’s Paradise,“ where he enjoyed working on many projects and countless special moments with his family. “Papa Awesome” loved the holidays and finding other special reasons to celebrate together with his family throughout the year.
Guillermo loved music, art, hiking, photography, going to the beach, the rain, fun times with friends, shoes, sunglasses, cars, movies, working out and most of all, Familia. He was a bit of a hippy jock and a free spirit with a kind, caring heart, a love for learning and reading, a will to constantly work to better himself and a way of helping all those around him to smile and find laughter in nearly any situation. He painted the world around him yellow, his favorite color, with his upbeat attitude and contagious smile. He also loved surprises and enjoyed a good practical joke. Free time was spent supporting his kids at basketball, soccer and school events, having pillow fights, taking trips to the beach or mountains, watching movies, spending time with his dogs, or enjoying a good carne asada barbeque and some drinks with his friends and family members.
Guillermo was survived by his parents, sister Ana Maria, brother Danilo, his wife Elizabeth and children Skyler and Lluvia Peralta Thomas, his mother-in-law Ann, sisters and brothers-in-law, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Abril Rose, his sister Susana and father-in-law, Tom, as well as Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
