Sometimes I would walk into the kitchen, seeing her staring outside enjoying the beautiful mountain view from her kitchen window. She would say it’s beautiful outside or its ugly outside depending on if she liked or disliked the weather. 
She loved to cook and made the best menudo. Two of my favorite dishes that she would make was her crunchy tacos and her potato soup. 
I will never forget the time when my cousin Cheryl’s car broke down in the middle of a rainstorm. We arrived home, soaking wet. My Nina took one look at us and asked, “what happened to you”!? After we had all showered, we laughed as we recounted our little adventure to her, out in the pouring rain, trying to push my cousin’s car to safety after the battery had died, all while arguing with each other trying to figure out how to get home. We sat around the oval wooden table in the kitchen enjoying a nice warm bowl of potato soup. 
Nina, you are deeply missed, but the memories we shared with you will live on with us forever. Until we meet again with Our Lord and Savior in Heaven! I love you Nina!


I have so many fond memories of my Madrina (Spanish for Godmother) Annie. I moved in with my cousins, Madrina Annie, and Uncle Billy a few years after graduating high school to work the graveyard shift at a plastic factory where my cousin Cheryl and Rosemary Jimenez worked. 
Nina (short for Madrina) would always stay up until 11 p.m. with my cousin Adrianna watching late night television and wish my cousins and I a good day at work. In the morning after working our shift, we would walk into the house with the smell of fresh brewed coffee. My Nina would be sitting at the kitchen table listening to the news on TV, reading the newspaper, while enjoying a cup of coffee in her favorite cup! Usually on Fridays, my cousins and I would try to stay up during the day to enjoy our Friday day-off. We usually only made it to 3 p.m. though passed out from exhaustion because we were so tired. Nina would say shake her head and say “aye-yah-yaye, you girls are too much”.
Nina was a very vivacious and caring woman who enjoyed listening to music. We would sit outside on the picnic bench, listening to anything from Spanish music to Elvis Presley or some good oldies. She always used to say, “I’m an Oldie, but I’m a goodie”, and would burst out in laughter! She had a very infectious laugh. One of her favorite songs was Volver, Volver by Vicente Fernandez. She sometimes sang it at the top of her lungs. Nina often used to give my cousin Krystle Flores a dollar when she would come over, so she could sing it to her; she loved it!
She was sad when I moved out, but I always made it a point to visit her especially around the holidays. When I would visit with my children, Katrina and Estevan Rivera, she would say “I remember your daughter’s name because of hurricane Katrina”. She said this every time; it really cracked her up! I loved her smile. I developed the nickname Jenny-wary. Every time she would try to say January, it would come out as Jenny-wary, and she’d get a kick out of it!

My mother Elfida "Annie" N. Jimenez. She is the first born child. Born from the state of New Mexico. From the late 1950's she traveled with her father and 2nd oldest sister. To search for work in California. They settle there. And her father sent my mom's mother and the rest of her siblings to California. She met my dad Bill D Jimenez (passed away 2011)  and they dated.  And engaged and got married in 1960.  Elfida active in work. My dad told her to quit to be a home maker.  Elfida a  Nurturing, protective, loving  mother, grandmother,  great-grandmother.  Her passion and hobbies were attending her roses & vegetable garden.  And a gift of cooking  delicious foods,  like tacos, and menudo. Every summer her and my dad would travel to New Mexico to buy Hatch New Mexico chilies. Elfida cook chile con Carne ( beef or pork ) Best in the West.   My mom a happy person who enjoys life. She loved to sing and dance to Mexican music. She passed away in her home. In Upland California. With the love, care, and support of her surviving daughters Elena Aguilar, Cheryl Steinline,  Rosemary Jimenez all from Upland.  Elfida have 4 grandchildren ( 1st born granddaughter  Adrianna M. Aguilar  passed away  1.05.2021 ) surviving grandchildren  Joe Aguilar,  Andrew J. Steinline,  Alexandra   N. Steinline. 2 great- grandchildren Naomi M. Steinline.  JJ Aguilar.  My mom's surviving sisters & brother. Eva Navarrette from Upland  CA,  Mary Lopez from Riverside CA,  Anita Ortega  from Upland,  and Joe Navarrette from California and Ramon Navarrette from Arizona.  We love you Dad, Adrianna, and Mom.  We think about you all everyday.  Always  in our hearts and never forgotten.  We love you & miss you all every day Until we meet again.  On that glorious day.  The Resurrection day.  In Jesus name amen.  

The family matriarch  has left us , but her legacy will forever be with us and continue  to live on in her children. She was kind, compassionate, generous, and very loving. We will miss you my dear sister . All the get togeathers at your house, the delicious food , the music ,laughter , dancing ,and kids running around . We all have some wonderful memories! Im sure you are doing all thes things now with Billy, Mom, Dad, and brother Al,  sisters ,Ida, Baby (Elma). Our hearts  are broken but knowing you are dancing in heaven with Adri  and no longer suffering brings comfort to me and those close to you. Love you forever! Your sister Mary
