Angie was the 7th daughter and the 8th of eleven children born to Alexander and Magdalena (Wald) Bernhardt. She grew up on the family farm in Strasburg, ND, and attended the Emmons County Country School through the 8th grade. Afterwards, she worked on the family farm.
On October 18, 1948, just a few weeks before her 18th birthday, she married George Kramer of Strasburg. They took over the farm for about two years before moving to Aberdeen, SD. They welcomed their first daughter Sandra while on the farm in September 1949. In Aberdeen, SD in 1951, their second daughter Cynthia was born. A year later George moved the family to Milwaukee, WI where three sons, Gary, Richard and George were all born. By age 27 Angie had five children which she then raised mostly on her own.
In 1962 the family moved to Anaheim, CA where Angie remained for almost 40 years. After raising her children, she earned her GED and went to work at the Gil Special Education Center in Huntington Beach, CA helping special needs children for 25 years. In 2000 Angie moved to Alta Loma, CA to be near her daughters.
Angie was a devout Catholic who read the Bible daily and often attended daily mass after she retired. Her hobbies included walking, taking dance lessons, baking and shopping. A highlight for her was a trip she took with church friends to visit the Holy Land in 1995. She was a member of St. Justin Martyr Church in Anaheim and currently a member of St. Peter & St. Paul Catholic Church in Alta Loma.
Angie is preceded in death by her brothers, Jack and Herman Bernhardt; by her sisters, Regina (Roehrich), Ida (Roehrich), Mary (Jones), Alice (Long), Rose (Anderson), Agnes (Keller); her ex-husband, George; and two sons, Gary and George. She is survived by her sister Cecelia (Vianden) of Bismarck, ND and one brother, Bill Bernhardt of Reston, VA.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Sandra (Larry) Tisdale of Upland, CA and Cindy (Bruce) Miller of Alta Loma; Rick (Suzi) Kramer of Columbus, IN; 10 grandchildren, Ryan (Lan) Tisdale, Kyle and Chris (Allisa) Miller, Kevin, Erin, Daniel, Therese, Angie, Tracy and Brian Kramer, and three great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Charlotte Miller, and Brook Papel.
A rosary and funeral mass will be held at St. Peter & St. Paul Catholic Church on January 25th. Burial will be at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery. Stone Funeral Home is overseeing the arrangements.
