Cucamonga, passed away on November 7 at the age of 81 with
his loving wife, Nancy, by his side.
Alfonso was born on July 17, 1940 in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico to
his mother, Emilia Patron Mimenza and his father, Alfonso
Rendon Munõz. Alfonso’s parents were both musicians, which,
undoubtedly, led to his life-long love of music - especially Latin
Jazz. His family moved to Southern California in the early
1950’s. Upon his completion of high school Al was drafted into
the U.S. Army where he proudly served during the Vietnam War.
After his service ended, Alfonso went into business for himself
as the owner/operator of Al Rendon Trucking. This career
allowed him the opportunity to visit the United States from coast
to coast and sparked his long time love for traveling which he
and Nancy did as much as possible. They made it a point to visit
many National Parks and also made several trips to West Virginia, Florida
and Pennsylvania to visit family.
Although Al loved California he always had a special place in his
heart for his birth place on the Yucatan Peninsula. He and Nancy
were regular visitors to Cancun where he was once again able to
dip his toes in the beautiful turquoise waters of his homeland.
Alfonso’s love of music and his affinity for dancing is what led
him to meet his wife when he asked Nancy to dance one night in
a salsa bar. The rest, as they say, is history.
In his later years, Al was reintroduced to another pastime that
brought him immense joy - his dogs. This love was rekindled
with a stray named Gypsy, and before long Willie and Pancho
also won his heart. Al took his fur babies to the Upland Dog Park
almost every day and formed great friendships with the other
regulars at the park. His friends - both four and two-legged -
brought him much joy and happiness.
Alfonso is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughters, Denise
Rendon and Jeannine Swisher; son, Chaplain (MAJ) Mark
Rendon; step-daughters, Paige King and Candace Peich as well
as 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by his son, Lenny Denmark.
The family has no immediate plans for services.
Donations in Al’s honor can be made to Ziggy’s Refuge, a
non-profit, farm animal sanctuary located in Providence, North
Carolina at www.ziggysrefuge.org/donate.
