Pearl was born the third of eight children, October 8, 1942, to Walter Meadows and Ethel O’Neal. Pearl received her early education at Cuney Elementary School and Phyllis Wheatley High where she graduated in 1961. She furthered her education by graduating from Palmer Junior College, in 1970, in Charleston SC, with an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in business. She also graduated with an Associate's Degree in business from Hillsborough Community College in Tampa Florida.
Pearl met and married Sgt. Henry Albert Smith (USAF), a native of Marion SC, in August 1963. Together they raised their four children, Curtistine Renee Adams, Rhonda Ann White, Michael Anthony Smith and Crystal Danielle Smith.
Pearl was employed by the Army and Air Force Exchange Services (AAFES) in 1973 as a cashier in the MacDill AFB main exchange and retired from AAFES in 2006 as a Human Relations Specialist at Ft. Sam Houston Army Base, in Texas with 27 years of loyal service. She started a second career with Brylane.com catalog sales in Universal City TX as a Human Resource (HR) Specialist until retiring in 2013.
Pearl enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, dancing, playing BINGO and working out. She also enjoyed going to Vegas every year to celebrate her birth month until her health declined to the point that it didn’t allow her to travel anymore.
Pearl was preceded in death by her father (Walter), mother (Ethel), brother (Walter Jr.), and sisters (Dorothy, Ethel, Shirley, Rosie Mae, and her twin who died at birth).
She leaves behind to celebrate her life, her husband of 57 years, TSgt. Henry A. Smith (Retired USAF), son Michael Smith, daughters Curtistine Adams, Rhonda White and Crystal Smith, her brother, Henry Arthur Meadows, eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins and friends.
A visitation for Pearl will be held Saturday, December 19, 2020 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with funeral service following at 11:00 AM at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX 78148.
