Lawrence E. Moore passed away on March 28, 2014, in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 95. He had a very long, happy, and fulfilled life with many adventures. In the 1940's he served in the US Navy as a "SeaBee", part of the team that built and maintained the US Naval base on Guam Island.
In 1950, after serving our country, he became an ordained minister and for most of that decade serving as pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Eufala, Oklahoma. From 1970 through 1974 he was pastor of the Assembly of God Church in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma, and from 1975 through 1978 the Glad Tiding Assembly of God Church in Ponca City, Oklahoma. His devotion to the church remained throughout his life and he was a true man of God.
To better provide for his family he also worked as a crane operator for many years. His projects include Webbers Falls Lock and Dam and Kaw City Lock and Dam. In San Antonio he worked on the SASA building and the refurbishing of Olmos Dam in the mid 1970's. But his proudest moment as a crane operator was the construction of the modular skyscraper condominium building, Milam Towers, on Wurzbach Road (now known as the Wurzbach Towers). He was solely responsible for lifting each modular condominium (there are 155 units) and ensuring their safe placement, constructing the 26 story high-rise. He did this with no visual contact, using remote radio technology, which was extremely impressive, especially for that time. A few years ago he revisited this building and was able to experience his achievement from the inside. This brought him great satisfaction and pride.
Never one to sit back and be idle in later years he ran the Giant Indoor Flea Market on South W. W. White road. During this time he became a lamp maker and could turn anything in to a lamp. There are hundreds of "Larry Lamps" today from the 8 years he was known as the "lamp man" at Bussey's Flea Market.
But above all he was an incredible and loving husband, father, grandfather, great and great great grandfather. His family was always number one in his life, for all his life, and his friends a very close second. He was a man who "walked the walk", a true role model.
Lawrence is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 75 years, Reba Moore; sons Steve Moore and Jerry Moore; sister Wilma Perkins; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday April 1, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday April 2, 2014, at 10:00 am in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment with military honors will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
