TSgt. John I. Davenport U.S. Air Force, Retired

TSgt. John I. Davenport, US Air Force retired passed away on June 21, 2014 in San Antonio at the age of 82. He enlisted in the Air Force on October 1st, 1951 and retired on October 31st, 1974. He is survived by his loving wife Gertrud who he met in 1953 at Ramstein AFB, Germany and they were married in Casablanca, Africa August 2, 1955. He is also survived by his daughter Joanne Davenport Hickernell and husband Robert; grandchildren, Tara N. Volpenhein and husband Joey, Alexander S. Hickernell and wife Samantha, Stephen J. Hickernell and wife Jessica, and James Hickernell; great grandchildren, Loralei, Kaitlyn,Tyler,Addison, Jayson, Taylor, Alexis, and Bryanna; brothers and sisters, Cyrus Peter Davenport and wife Nancy, Frederick Davenport and wife Lydia, Margaret LaVin, Carol Gilbert, Rita Butler, Shirlene Roseman, Evelene Chapman, Ernest Heinz, Anneliese Drebinski. Albert Heinz and wife Anni, Paul Heinz and wife Gertrud, Erika Keany and husband John, Marianne Westrich and husband Norbert; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a loving husband, father and Opa. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 26, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm with a rosary being recited at 6:00 pm at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, June 27, 2014 at 8:00 am in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.
