George Martin Hric

George was a veteran and proudly served during World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam War. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 after seeking approval from his parents to serve as he was only 17 and still in high school. He was assigned to Subic Bay, Philippines. He spent time in the civilian sector for a couple years and reenlisted in the US Air Force in 1948. George was assigned to Ashiya, Japan, where he met the love of his life, Katey (Kiriko) while working at the Transportation Office together. During this time, George also spent time in Kimpo, Korea with the 315th Air Division. His assignment was to help in transporting the last remains of deceased members to the US. He later spent time at multiple bases including Okinawa, Iwo Jima, Aleutian Islands, Scott, AFB, IL, Mountain Home AFB, ID, Tachikawa AFB and Yokota AFB, Japan, Larson AFB, WA, Sheppard AFB, TX, and Randolph AFB, TX.

George retired from the US Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant after 26 years of distinguished service in the military. He then worked for Scobey Allied Moving and Storage and Alamo Mayflower for an additional 20 years before retiring again.

George was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching his Cleveland Indians despite their less than stellar performance at times. In the late 30's, and early 40's, George was an enthusiastic fan at the Indians’ games at League Park. He shared that it was common to only pay 25¢ admission for a double header! He also loved Japanese sumo wrestling, becoming familiar with sport during his various assignments in the Far East.

George was, foremost, a family man. He married Katey on May 12, 1951, in Tokyo, Japan. They enjoyed raising their three children, dancing, bowling, playing cards, and traveling by bus to Louisiana casinos. After Katey died in 2015, George visited her gravesite every day for almost 5 years until his health made the visits a bit more difficult. He was not only a loving husband but a wonderful father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He was a humble and generous man, proud of the accomplishments of his children and their spouses, grandchildren and their spouses, and he so loved visiting with his great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

George is preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Katey Hric, parents George and Angela Hric, sister LaVerne Wilk, and brother Daniel Hric.

George is survived by son David Hric and wife Susan Hric, daughter Kathleen Reeves and husband Kenneth Reeves, daughter Mary Rivas and husband Luis Rivas, sister Elaine Dopirak, grandson Christopher Reeves and wife Elizabeth, grandson Adam Reeves and wife Janna, granddaughter Christine McAvoy and husband Will McAvoy, granddaughter Rachel Donovan and husband Keelan Donovan, great grandchildren, James, Emma, Katherine, Sydney, Jett, Knox, Sloane, Roman, and Bo.

Visitation will be 5-7 PM, December 14, 2021, at Colonial Funeral Home in Universal City.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, December 15, 2021, at Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:30 PM.

The funeral and graveside services will be live streamed.
