Lieutenant Colonel Donald Moore Duncan, U.S. Air Force Retired, 84, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Austin, Texas, passed away at Brook Army Medical Center on October 20th, 2024, after a short battle with cancer. He was born December 2nd, 1939, in Monticello, Kentucky to Mr. James H. and Mrs. Elizabeth Moore Duncan. He will be interred at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas on November 14th, 2024.
Don graduated from Wake Forest University in 1962, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he was a member of the Wake Forest Marching Band, Sigma Chi Fraternity, and briefly in Army ROTC. After college he attended U.S. Air Force Officer Training School and was subsequently commissioned a Second Lieutenant in May 1963. Following commissioning, he married his sweetheart Charlene Duncan in August 1963 at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi. During his career in the U.S. Air Force as an Air Weapons Controller, he had numerous assignments both in the United States and abroad, including time in Vietnam and Thailand during the Vietnam War, a remote assignment in Korea, and a long tour in Germany. He enjoyed reading, writing, bookkeeping, small computing, and working in the yard. He was a life-time member of the Baptist Church, including 38 years at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Austin, Texas where he served as a Deacon, and jointly led and taught the Fellowship Bible Study class with wife Charlene.
Don is preceded in death by an infant sister, his birth mother, Elizabeth M. Duncan, his father, James H. Duncan, his mother Opal B. Duncan and his brother, James E. Duncan. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mrs. Sandra Charlene Duncan, his son, Colonel Jonathan Duncan, U.S. Air Force Retired, his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Julie Duncan, his grandson, Second Lieutenant Carson Duncan, U.S. Air Force, and his granddaughter, Ms. Lydia Duncan, as well as several cousins, two nephews, and in-laws.

Funeral service for Donald will be held from 10:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. Thursday, November 14, 2024 at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX 78148. Committal Service with Military Honors will follow from 1:00p.m. to 1:20p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Shelter #1, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
