Colonel David (Dave) M. Withers, U.S. Air Force, Retired passed away peacefully May 6, 2013 at the age of 93 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his lovely bride of 69 and a half years, Velora Manning Withers; son, Dale Lee Withers and wife Brenda; daughter, Susan Withers Canty; grandchildren, Shawn A. Withers and wife Jette B., Michelle S. Withers Gawlik and husband David W., Blaine H. Canty and wife Samantha, Jason Growcock and Jennifer Growcock; great-grandchildren, Shelby Anderson, Sierra Withers, Clara Withers, Rachel Gawlik, Hannah Gawlik,Magen Gawlik, Brandon Whited, Stacy Whited, and Brittney Whited. He will be remembered as such a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, gentleman, and patriot. He was the Director of Supply at Air Training Command, Randolph Air Force Base until his retirement in 1968. He was subsequently employed by the Texas Department of Human Resources until his retirement in 1983 as the Assistant Regional Director, San Antonio Region. Col. Withers was a 50 year member of the Belleview, Florida Masonic Lodge and a 32nd degree member of the Alexandria, Virginia Scottish Rite Bodies. He was a Past State Commander and a Past National Officer of the National China-Burma-India Veterans Association as well as a member of the American Legion, The Reserve Officers Association, Windcrest Citizens Patrol, Windcrest Golf Club, and The San Antonio Conservation Society. His hobbies included golf and gardening which he enjoyed greatly. A visitation will begin Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. and the funeral service will begin at 12:00 P.M. at Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors and Masonic Rites. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Boysville, P.O.
