Joannis Papettas, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2024, at the age of 75. Born in Cyprus, he was always proud of the culture and values he learned while growing up there.
Joannis came to the United States as a young man to create a better life for himself and his future family. He viewed this country as one that could provide the best opportunities in the world. We are all thankful that he made that move and started his family here. Throughout his career, he worked in and owned several restaurants, he was always happiest when cooking for others.
He is survived by his devoted son, Bill Papettas, and daughter-in-law, Christina Papettas. Joannis was a proud grandfather to Jonathan and Cynthia.
Joannis also leaves behind his loving daughter, Helen Cruz, and son-in-law, Juan Cruz. He was a proud grandfather to Tatiana and Jaden.
Additionally, his daughter, Mina Papettas, held a special place in his heart.
He was predeceased by his parents, Vasilis and Katerina Papettas, and is survived by his three siblings: Athena Avgoustis, Chrystalla Hadjidemetriou, and Kostaki Papettas.
Joannis was known for his kindness, warmth, and generosity. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
A memorial service will be held to honor Joannis’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the National Kidney Foundation in his memory.

A visitation for Joannis will be held Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 721 Rahway Avenue, Union, NJ 07083.
A funeral service will occur Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 11:00 AM, 721 Rahway Ave, Union, NJ 07083.
A graveside service will occur Thursday, October 24, 2024 at Saint Gertrude Cemetery & Mausoleum, 53 Inman Ave, Woodbridge Township, NJ 07067.
