Joan Fitzpatrick (née Tampany) 88, of Union NJ passed away on May 6th at Center for Hope Hospice after a long battle with metastatic breast cancer. Joan was born on November 27, 1931 to Margaretta and John Tampany in Scranton, PA. She graduated from St Paul’s High School in Scranton and attended Marywood Seminary. She was employed by Daystrom Company before her marriage and move to NJ. Joan married the late Robert Fitzpatrick in 1956 and they raised their family and lived happily in Irvington, NJ until his death in 1989.
She stayed home with her children and participated in their school activities until they reached junior high. She was a Girl Scout Leader, Class Mother and member of the Altar & Rosary Society at St Leo's Church in Irvington. Later, she was employed as a teller at First Fidelity Bank (Wells Fargo) in Irvington Center until her retirement. Joan loved to travel and enjoyed many trips across the US, as well as to Europe with family and friends. She loved to spend time with her family, enjoyed crossword puzzles, crocheting and trips to the casino.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen of Chicago, IL, her son Robert and his wife, Sandra, of South Amboy, NJ and her grandsons, Sean Fitzpatrick and Max Lloyd, also of South Amboy. She is also survived by her sister in law, Alice (Frank) Natale of Endwell, NY and 12 nieces and nephews.
Services will be private. Contributions can be made in her memory to Center for Hope Hospice who provided loving care over the last four months of her life, especially during the time when family was unable to be present due to COVID 19.
