George Piegari

George was born on September 2, 1934 in Newark, New Jersey to his loving parents, Gregorio Piegari and Maria Policastro and grew up in Hillside, New Jersey.

He was a decorated veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Upon leaving the Army, he established his own trucking company and then continued the family business, American Grocery and Beverage, in Edison, New Jersey. One of the greatest gifts of George's life was being able to work with his brothers, nieces and nephews. It gave him great joy to be a part of a true family business. Although the work was hard and the hours long, there was a true sense of enjoyment for him at the business and he always put his family first.

One of George's favorite passages, which he lived by throughout his lifetime was, "It is better to give than to receive." He was known for his pleasant nature, strong work ethic, and unwavering love for his family. He especially cherished the bond he shared with his brothers.

He is predeceased by his devoted parents and siblings: Anthony, Angelo, Angelica, Angelina, Vincenzo, Gennaro, Carlo, and Carmela.

George leaves behind his wife, Mary Piegari, as well as his cherished daughters Theresa D'Andria (her husband, Robert) and Maria Piegari, granddaughter Christie Nelson (her husband, Gregory), grandson Luke Piegari, great grandson Banks Nelson, and many nieces and nephews.

He was loving and extraordinarily generous to his stepchildren and step-grandchildren.

George leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness with dear friends and extended family who will miss his vibrant spirit and generous heart.

A visitation will be held at McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Ave, Union, NJ 07083 on October 16, 2024 from 10:00am to 12:00am. This will be immediately followed by a 1:00pm graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery in Hillside, 1137 N Broad St., Hillside, NJ 07205.
