Catharine A. Scholz

Catharine Anne Scholz (nee Curran) was born in Newark, New Jersey on July 25, 1939 to Alfred and Angelina Curran, both originally from Prince Edward Island, Canada. She is predeceased by her siblings, Mary Nash, Jack Curran and Ruth Morelli.

Cathy is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, John (Jack) Scholz; her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret (Peggy) and Douglas Donahue; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Stephen Chinn; and son and daughter-in-law, James and Jeanne Scholz; grandchildren, Michael (Catie) Chinn, Nicole (Michael) Dwyer, Patrick Scholz and James Scholz; two great grandchildren Michael and Jack Dwyer, and an abundance of nieces and nephews.

Cathy graduated in 1960 from St. Michael’s Nursing School as a registered nurse. It was during her time at St. Michael’s that her roommate introduced her to her future husband.

Cathy married in June of 1962, moved to Hillside and immediately started her family. She moved to Union in 1965 where she lived for 22 years before moving to Mountainside. Since retiring, she has spent the winters “snow birding” in Madeira Beach, Florida.

Cathy loved family, friends, tennis, golf and helping others. She worked in the emergency rooms of St. Michael’s, Union Memorial, and Overlook hospitals over the years. She also volunteered for the Summit area rescue squad.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 29, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 10:00 to 10:30 AM at McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Avenue, Union, NJ 07083.

There will be a funeral Mass on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church in Union, NJ 07083.
