It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carmela Palmisano. She passed away at the age of 97 peacefully on May 16, 2024, at the Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, leaving behind a profound sense of loss for her family and all who knew her.
Carmela, affectionately known as "Cam" by her family and friends, was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, in 1926, to Michael and Lena Ventura. Prior to meeting her beloved husband, Joseph, she worked as a buyer for Broadway Hosiery. Subsequently, she dedicated her life to her family and homemaking. Additionally, she possessed remarkable skills as a seamstress and salesperson. In her later years, she worked at Harlan Fashions, Union, NJ, where she had a gift for making everyone feel valued and special.
Carmela was a devoted mother to Dr. Joanne Palmisano (m. Russel Moore), Stephen Palmisano, Geralyn Ackerman (m. Edward Ackerman), and Maria Feo (m. Ralph Feo). She was a loving grandmother to David Ackerman, Rachel Ackerman, Rebecca Ackerman, James Feo (m. Lori Feo), Michelle Feo, Robert Moore, and Michael Moore. Although their time together was much too brief, she cherished her role as an adoring great-grandmother to Natalie Mae Feo.
Grandma's house was a haven of affection, warm embraces, kisses, and ice cream sundaes, where her grandchildren experienced an overwhelming sense of cherished love and unwavering support. Carmela derived immense pleasure from being present for her family and cherished the moments when everyone gathered around the table to savor her delectable Italian cuisine.
A devout Catholic, Carmela’s Christian beliefs and values, guided her deep faith in all humankind.
She held a deep affection for the countryside, possessed a natural affinity for animals, and made it a daily practice to feed the small creatures that would visit her backyard. Her heart, spirit, and soul were boundless in their capacity for unconditional love and compassion.
Everyone who knew her will always remember the love she brought into their lives.
Carmela was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Palmisano, her brother, August Ventura and his wife Romola, and her sister, Marcella Russomagno and husband Vincent.
A mass for Carmela will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2024 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, 971 Suburban Rd, Union, NJ 07083. Following the mass will be an entombment from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Hollywood Memorial Park, 1500 Stuyvesant Ave., Union, NJ 07083.
